MAKING HISTORY: HIDDEN WORLD OF THE LEVINY WOMEN

CASTLEMAINE STATE FESTIVAL 2015

In February 2015 the Castlemaine Art Museum presented the exhibition Making History: Hidden world of the Leviny Women by artist Catherine Pilgrim curated by Beverly Knight, as part of the Castlemaine State Festival 2015.

The exhibition examined the essence and activities of the mysterious Leviny women of Buda Historic Home and Garden. Buda holds a special place in the hearts of the people of Castlemaine, and countless stories encircling the Leviny family’s lives continue to swirl around the town some 34 years after the death of the last surviving sister, Hilda Leviny.

Making History deeply engaged with the collective stories of family, love, desire and loss that permeate their shared narrative whilst unfurling moments of familial discord.
