ginger riley munduwalawala retrospective

NATIONAL GALLERY OF VICTORIA 1997

In 1997 Ginger Riley Munduwalawala was the first living Indigenous artist to be honoured with a major retrospective survey exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria. This monumental retrospective, and the accompanying publication, offered a ten-year overview of Ginger Riley’s painting life and is still considered one of the most exhilarating and superb of any exhibitions focusing on an Australian artist’s career.

Beverly Knight, who represented the artist across his entire painting career and holds extensive archival material and information on the artist’s oeuvre was instrumental in acting for Ginger Riley throughout the planning and duration of this significant exhibition on show at the NGV from 17 July to 22 September 1997.
