MIRDIDINGKINGATHI JUWARNDA SALLY GABORI Commission for Brisbane Airport

BRISBANE AIRPORT INTERNATIONAL TERMINAL UPGRADE 2015

On the 19th August 2015 Brisbane Airport Corporation Pty Ltd officially launched the Brisbane Airport International Arrival Terminal upgrade featuring the reproduced paintings of the significant, deceased artist Mirdidingkingathi Juwarnda Sally Gabori. As Agent for the Estate of the Artist, Beverly Knight worked closely with the Brisbane Airport Commission, Mirdidingkingathi Juwarnda Sally Gabori (before her passing in 2015), and subsequently the Estate in mentoring and bringing this project to fruition.

This major transformation of the International Arrival Terminal features over 700 metres of Mirdidingkingathi Juwarnda Sally Gabori’s artworks digitally rendered and reproduced in large scale along the public concourse. Her imagery evokes the essence of Queensland and is a wonderful welcome to local and international visitors.

Selected paintings have been introduced into the architectural drawings and reproduced along the length of the arrival terminal, depicting the artist’s stories of the tropical seascape, salt pans, mangrove swamps and reefs on Bentinck Island, Queensland in lush and vibrant colours. This project was an immense honour and tribute to the artist whose artworks have been collected by leading galleries and collectors nationally and internationally and whose immeasurable cultural legacy continues to live on after her passing.
